Jim Carey: Piano & Percussion
Jim Carey’s experience as a music educator includes serving as collegiate Director of Bands/Professor of Music, as a (public schools) assistant band director and as a private instructor of music. For over two decades, he has taught piano/keyboard, percussion & drum set, music theory/ear-training, improvisation, conducting, music appreciation, music fundamentals, music business and class piano. He has directed concert bands, marching bands, pep bands, jazz ensembles/combos, string orchestras, steel drum bands, percussion ensembles and drum lines.
Jim’s professional credits include performing with The Fifth Dimension, Jack Jones, Frankie Avalon, Al Hirt, The Lettermen, Michele LeGrand, Roger Williams, Anthony Newley, Joe Williams, Jim Stafford, The Letterman, Norm Crosby, The Shenanigans and The High Seas Jazz Festivals. He has served as the Musical Director for The National Audubon Society, as a Musical Director / performer for numerous cruise lines and he has performed for former President Jimmy Carter.
Jim is an educational artist/clinician with DEG Dynasty Inc., Panyard Inc. and Innovative Percussion. He manages JTC Musical Services and The Brickell Pointe Management Group which provide music performances, lecturers, master classes, clinics, musical event coordination, (i.e. band camps, festivals, etc.) fund raising and specialized group travel planning.
Currently, Jim performs as a solo pianist, one man band, with his specialized/variety bands & combos, his feature act; “THE CAREY’D AWAY SHOW” and he provides a fascinating enrichment lecture on “The History of the Steel Drum.”
Whether the setting is in the classroom, a private lesson, in a clinic, during a rehearsal or in performance, Jim enjoys sharing his musical knowledge and experiences which include serving as a musical director, pianist/keyboardist, drummer/percussionist, singer/song writer and performer/lecturer of the steel drum.
