Ian Kinnaman

Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Youngstown State University

Ian Kinnaman is an upright bassist, electric bassist, pianist and composer from Damascus, MD. 

He currently teaches bass at the College of Wooster and has been teaching bass and piano since 2015. Ian received a B.M. in Music Education from Youngstown State University where he studied with Dave Morgan (bass & composition) and Theron Brown (piano).

His teaching philosophy embraces a holistic understanding of music, including theory, history, aural skills, technique, and a mentally and physically healthy approach to the instrument. He encourages improvisation and composition with all of his students.

In the classical world, Ian has played with ensembles including the Heights Chamber Orchestra in Cleveland and the Trinity Chamber Orchestra in Washington D.C. He is a member of Alla Boara, a modern Italian folk group led by Cleveland percussionist Anthony Taddeo. His own project, the Ian Kinnaman Quartet, regularly performs his own compositions. He has shared the stage with such musicians as Amanda Powell, Dan Bruce, Jack Schantz, Nestor Torres, and Jamey Haddad. He has performed as part of the ORMACO World Tour of Music and the Tri-C Jazz Festival.

Ian works with a wide range of students and styles while regularly performing with jazz combos, jazz big bands, folk music groups, cover bands, and orchestras throughout the NE Ohio area.
